We often think about the job we do for our company.
Yet, we don’t think about the question in reverse.
What does our company do for us?
What is the job of the company in our life?
Many might wonder why we should think about these questions.
My Perspective
I have been reading and thinking about the concept of “jobs to be done”.
That we hire people and products to advance our lives.
When it comes to our job, the work we are paid to do, we think of the job through the company lens.
They are hiring us to advance their business in some way.
Yet, when we take a job, we select the companies we want to work for.
We might weigh two offers and make a choice.
That makes me think we are looking for a company to do a “job” for us that may go beyond salary.
The job we need at one moment might be flexibility.
The job at another might be strong health care.
Another period in our life we might be seeking a role and company where we can make a difference.
We could ask the jobs we need our job to do right now.
When considering a move or new role, we could question if the role fits our job needs.
Getting clear on the job our job plays will help make career decisions easier.
