What we wear can sometimes be a controversial topic.

We say that what’s inside matters more than what we wear.

Which is 100% true.

Some consider clothes to be frivolous.

Others feel they are an integral part of their identity.

The clothes we choose send messages.

A suit is formal or professional.

Jeans are laid back.

A black turtleneck on Steve Jobs defined him.

We all have a look no matter if it’s intentional or accidental.

My Perspective

If what we wear is going to make an impression on others, why don’t we embrace this.

There is an opportunity in intentionally planning how we want to be perceived.

If we are changing careers or moving up in our career, how might we dress to reflect that.

Look around at those you admire and want to be seen as part of their group.

What are they wearing?

We can figure out if our wardrobes match theirs or if there is a gap.

Then, we can look to fill the gap.

If money is tight, we can look for pieces secondhand.

Over time our pieces will turn over and a whole new wardrobe will emerge.

The choice of identity – artist, professional, scientist, author – is up to you.

Along the way, signature colors or accessories can make unique, personal statements.

We can define what our aspirational self wears.

Then, intentionally plan our purchases to achieve the look.

Your Turn

What identity do you want your wardrobe to portray?

How close or far away are you currently from the look?

What is one piece you can start looking for today that will set you on the journey?
