Gartner published an article on The Future of Leadership with AI that included the chart below.

The perspective in the article was interesting as it linked to the evolution of middle management.
That said, I was intrigued by the chart at the individual employee level.
The opportunity to partner with AI as a mentor, reviewer, and sounding board.
Personal AI Futures
At the individual level, we can use the three levels for our personal development.
AI as Mentor
Providing advice at times we don’t know the direction we should take. AI can help us consider alternatives and select a path. One idea that I’ve written about in this category is to use AI as a partner in developing a personal learning plan.
AI as Reviewer
Providing thoughts or work to get feedback on an idea, presentation, or piece of writing could produce insight before taking work forward within the organization.
AI as Sounding Board
When struggling with ideas and what direction to take, AI can be a great partner to bounce ideas around and get the creative juices flowing. This is also a good way to refine ideas before taking them forward. Use AI to push, question, and iterate.
There are so many more ways AI as mentor, reviewer, and sounding board could be used.
I’m going to spend some more time considering prompts and activities at these three layers.
Your Turn
Do you use AI as mentor, reviewer, and/or sounding board?
What prompts work particularly well?
How could these three categories shift the way you are currently partnering with AI?
