Everyone has clients in their life.

These are the people who you are doing work for.

In business, your “client” is typically a B2B or B2C customer of your product or service.

Yet, many people don’t work directly for that customer.

So, our clients are internal people in the company.

Our boss. Those who report into us. Our peers. All those who are recipients of the work we do.

Outside of work, our clients continue.

A significant other who relies on us to handle a chore.

Children.

Volunteer groups.

Friends.

When we think about the people in our life as clients, we can consider their needs differently.

What is the pain point we are resolving for them?

Is this their pain point or ours?

When we start to consider our clients, we can also consider if we have too many.

There are only 168 hours in a week.

With too many client projects, we can risk dropping the ball in one or more.

My Story

I’ve been feeling this client demand in the last week.

With new year energy, I moved into a new work project.

This is exciting but also has logistic client considerations.

At the same time, we kicked off some home projects.

This created different clients – service providers that need my time and energy.

Things are going fine, but I’m looking forward to a few things wrapping up….less clients.

I’ll be reassessing what remains this month.

Understanding the number of clients I can comfortably serve.

And working to under promise and overdeliver on each of their needs.

Your Turn

Do you recognize all the clients in your life?

Do you sometimes find yourself trying to serve too many at once?

What strategies could you put in place to keep your client level at a comfortable number?
