I’ve noticed lately how many of us are stressed by last minute work.
When something is on the calendar for a month or even a week out, we think we “have time”.
We have time…. until we don’t.
Then, the panic and stress set in.
We work frantically to meet the deadline.
The work may be fine, but it’s likely not great.
The word “work” is used loosely here as this could be a project in any part of your life.
A presentation.
A dinner party at your home.
An event you are organizing.
My Story
I’ve seen this happen in my life lately.
Even though I know it’s better to plan and slowly work on a project, I get caught in the rush.
Sometimes this happens when a project is too daunting.
Other times the task is daunting because I don’t really want to do it.
Other times a Monday deadline provides “so much more time” than a Friday deadline.
These are just a few of the patterns I’ve seen in my life in the last month.
They remind me of the things I know, but will remind us of here:
- When a project comes up, plan the steps to deliver a high-quality product.
- Start with a small step – that creates momentum.
- Remember the other commitments in your life when you create the plan.
- Don’t wait until the last minute!
This post is as much for me as it is for you.
Time to get life back on track and create a plan.
Your Turn
Do you find yourself “out of time”?
What are the reasons you are working right before the deadline?
How could a bit of planning help keep you on track?
