The last two weeks, the posts have covered the 8 dimensions of wellbeing – physical, emotional, occupational, financial, intellectual, social, spiritual, and environmental.

For those who want to dive deeper, a 63-page workbook is available.

After doing a reflection on the year past, it’s time to shift our focus to the year ahead.

A great first step in that process is to write a letter to ourselves.

I covered the concept of letters to self in a post back in June.

To set a vision for the year, start your note with “Dear December Me”.

You can state projects you will have accomplished, habits you now have (or have given up), milestones achieved, how you feel, and much more.

Consider all 8 dimensions of wellbeing.

Don’t overthink it.

Write what pops into your mind.

At the end, read the letter and see what stands out.

Are there 2-3 things on the list that you could take a small step today to move toward.

Knowing where we want to end the year makes it much easier to figure out where to start.

My Perspective

Writing a letter to myself entered my personal development journey just a couple years ago.

I saw the idea and decided to give it a try.

Personally, it brings ideas swirling around in my head into perspective.

Adds a level of clarity that’s in there but struggling to get out.

This is my first step in planning my goals for the year ahead.

Posts in the upcoming days will cover more of the steps I take to set a vision and goals for the year.

Your Turn

Have you ever written a letter to yourself?

When you consider the year ahead, what would you put in this letter?

How are you hoping and dreaming about the future?
