When I was doing some research on the framework of doing, being, and becoming, this quote popped up in my research:

“No one else has the capacity to know us as well as we can know ourselves. It is in the awareness of ourselves that our strengths lie. And awareness of every aspect of ourselves allows us to become who we are … Owning ourselves is probably the richest goldmine any of us will ever possess.”– Anne Wilson Schaef

I have spent most of my life looking for ways to discover more about myself.

In college, I took the Myers-Briggs assessment, and I became hooked on personal discovery and fascinated by the differences that make each of us a unique constellation of strengths and tendencies.

From there, I dove into learning about other assessments, got certified in Clifton Strengths, and leveraged all the insight to help myself and others define paths to help others by understanding our unique difference.

Today, I believe more than ever that if we understand all kinds of things about ourselves, from our strengths to the activities that bring us joy, we are more likely to thrive.

Some struggle with the assessments that support us in personal discovery.

They don’t want to be put in a box.

While I understand this perspective, sometimes I wonder if the journey to thriving will take longer without using the toolbox.

We each need to find our own path to meaning.

To whom we are becoming.

On the path, assessments can help or be a stumbling block.

Find the path that serves you best.

Your Turn

How well do you feel you know yourself?

Are you using that knowledge to improve your life and the lives of those around you?

Could the insight you are gaining allow you to move closer to the person you are becoming?
