When we practice something, there will be MANY bad results.
We might be writing, painting, playing a sport, taking photos, or another new activity.
As we practice, we can take off some of the pressure by not keeping the practice tries.
With sports you just keep trying to make a basket or a goal.
When you miss, you try again.
The difference when we create something is that there is a physical reminder of the bad results.
A painting. A draft of a book chapter. A physical product.
Giving ourselves permission to throw away the bad work can help us keep going.
We don’t have to keep looking at the work we aren’t proud of.
We can choose what to keep.
My Perspective
I was thinking about this concept at work.
We could “practice” through drafts of presentations we throw out.
We could brainstorm many ideas and then throw out the ones that don’t make sense.
Every role would have different things they are practicing.
This could result in different work to throw away.
Practicing until we get the good stuff.
Your Turn
Where do you need more practice at home and at work?
How could you throw away the practice work?
Would this change your mind about things you keep over time?
