As adults, we sometimes forget to play.

Life is serious and full of responsibility.

However, playing can help all of us find joy and relieve stress.

The National Institute for Play has a free, 10-minute quiz to help you discover which of 6 play types you are. The options include Creator, Explorer, Competitor, Organizer, Dreamer, and Mover.

My Story

When I looked at the list, my guess was that I would be the creator, organizer, or dreamer.

And, sure enough, my top 2 were the organizer and dreamer.

I found it intriguing that organizing is defined as play. Many people find my love of organizing things to be a “chore” where to me it really is fun. When I describe this, I often get confused looks. Like many things in life, what one person defines as play, another may find as a form of work.

The quiz prompted me to buy the book behind it, Play: How it Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination, and Invigorates the Soul by Stuart Brown and Christopher Vaughan.

I’ll be curious if reading further will provide deeper insight into how we can bring more play into our lives.
