A bit like the movie Inside Out, we all have a team inside our mind.
Our troublesome inner critic.
Our inner child that pulls us back to who we were (with all the good and bad).
Our wise inner sage.
Our strong inner superhero.
I heard the idea of naming these inner team members.
I’m intrigued and think this is worth exploring.
My Perspective
Previously, I wrote about defining our Superhero Self.
This was all about creating a persona of the strengths we each have inside us.
I hadn’t considered giving this persona a name.
Like the movie Inside Out, we could start to “see” the inner selves when they were active.
We could address them by name when they are in the room.
Acknowledge the information they are sharing.
Then intentionally choose what to do with it.
We could thank our inner critic and choose to dismiss the point they made.
Celebrate a positive memory with our inner child.
Naming these “voices in our head” could make them more complete.
And, more importantly, help us work through the information they provide.
Keeping what is providing value and acknowledging what to let go.
Your Turn
How do you think of your inner self?
Are the voices all one “inner person” or do you see them as a “group or team”?
Would naming them change your perspective on how conversations with yourself might go?
