As we head into a new year, many people are setting goals.
We imagine the person we want to become.
One technique that I’ve been doing for at least 10 years is writing a letter to myself.
I start with “Dear December Lori”…
The voice is looking back at the year.
Highlighting what I’m proud that I’ve accomplished.
Noting relationships that have evolved.
Any differences in my physical and emotional health.
Updates I’ve done to my home.
Anything that is a priority for me goes in the letter.
Read the Letter
Writing the letter is a great first step.
However, pulling it out every couple months throughout the year is even better.
This process reminds me of where I want to be in December.
It can re-prioritize a goal or help us feel good about the progress you have been making.
Your Turn
Have you ever written a letter to your future self?
What would be on your list this year?
How could you find a few minutes today to write the letter?
