I was reading an article in the New York Times that was talking about go-to recipes.
The author suggested we should have go-to recipes for entertaining.
Dishes that had a signature style, but you could vary based on the switch of ingredients.
For her, it was a salad dressing.
She could vary the ingredients in the salad, but the dressing was a signature.
Friends and family knew they could count on her to bring it…and they loved it.
My Perspective
While I think it would be great to figure out your signature dish for events, I had another idea.
I wonder if we each have “signature work”.
The projects or approach that are our go-to.
The work we do with both excellence and ease.
What if we gave that thing a name?
A bit of whimsy to claim our professional “house special” or our “signature dish”.
I often use the words “special sauce” when we talk about our unique difference.
Maybe when we put that special sauce on a project it becomes a signature dish.
Your Turn
Do you feel like you have a signature dish at work?
Does it emerge when you add your special sauce to a project?
Could you ask others if they see a house special that you bring to the work?
