Over the years, I’ve heard the idea of getting ready for bed before it’s time to go to bed.

The suggestion is to do some of the routines earlier.

Things like washing our face.

Brushing our teeth.

Putting on pajamas.

And anything else we might do as part of our pre-sleep rituals.

The thought is that if you do these things earlier, you can slide right into bed later.

We don’t have to take the time to do the night-time routine.

We don’t run the risk of skipping teeth brushing or face washing because we are too tired.

My Story

While I’ve heard this suggestion many times over the years, I’ve never tried it.

Until…. a few weeks ago.

I decided to give the idea a try.

My last hour or two before bed are a combination of reading and watching TV.

Then, I go upstairs, do my routine & go to bed.

I tried moving most evening rituals before reading and TV.

The things I moved included taking out my contacts.

Washing my face and completing my skincare routine.

And brushing my teeth.

Then, when it’s time to go to bed, I just change into pajamas and climb in.

I LOVE this new routine!

It’s only been a couple of weeks, but this is so much better.

I like that my eyes get some extra “air” without contacts in for a couple hours.

I don’t risk skipping any part of the routine.

And the routine doesn’t “wake me up” as I’m trying to wind down (as it sometimes used to).

Your Turn
