Doing a bit of research, I came across an Indian proverb and a quote that struck me as it relates to personal development.

“There is an Indian proverb that says everyone is a house with four rooms, a physical, a mental, an emotional, and a spiritual. Most of us tend to live in one room most of the time, but unless we go into every room every day, if only to keep it aired, we are not a complete person.”

My Perspective

Thinking about wellbeing, I like the idea of tending to these four areas each day.

Researching the definitions of the four areas a bit more, I was intrigued by the “spiritual” category.

This category was not described by beliefs, religion, or values.

Instead of focusing on something outside of us, the focus is within.

Where your spirit comes alive and feels free.

This is where our talents, gifts, and creativity live.

The quote above also reinforced the need to visit each room every day.

I don’t know if I’ve ever considered if I’ve spent time in each area every day.

Mental and physical are easy to check off for me.

However, some thought needs to be given to emotional and spiritual.

Your Turn

Have you heard of the concept of the four rooms?

Do you feel you attend to each room each day?

Which of the four are the most and least prevalent in your life?
