There are many occasions where we consider what outfit to wear to an event.

Sometimes this decision can be stressful.

A few weeks ago on a podcast, there was a mention of clothing being a tool.

Then, last night, I heard the statement again by Michelle Obama in the Netflix movie “Becoming”.

Clothing as a tool – interesting.

My Perspective

Thinking about this concept, I wonder if this shift in mindset could make decisions more objective.

We could think about what outfit the event “needs” and then select what we have that meets the need.

We could think about the role we play, image we want to portray, or message we hope to communicate.

Based on those answers, what adjectives describe an outfit for that role, image, or message.

Now, looking at our closet like a tool, which options fit the adjectives?

Once we find some options, we can select the tool.

I think this could take some of the stress and emotion out of decisions.

Your Turn

Do you struggle selecting clothes for certain events?

Could this approach help make the process more objective?

Would this be a good approach for your day-to-day clothing decisions?
