I heard someone say that “coming of age” happens at many moments in our lives.

Typically, the phrase is associated with the time we move from childhood to adulthood.

A transition from one phase to another.

Yet, there are many points in life that we make transitions.

Becoming a parent.

Retiring.

Career transitions.

Marriage.

Divorce.

Loss of a loved one.

A little online searching produced this article.

The premise is that we need to shift our perspective on aging from decline to growth.

In a mindset of growth, we can reimagine who we are again and again.

My Perspective

I think this is a great way to think about our lives.

We could use each life change as an opportunity to reimagine who we are.

We could create our own life changes to enable new opportunities to emerge.

Rather than looking at aging as a decline, consider how we get better year after year.

We could shift our perspective on all 8 areas of wellbeing.

Taking the areas that aren’t fulfilling and shifting them into a growth mode.

Your Turn

What moments in your life do you define as coming of age?

If you could “come of age” in the next 12 months, what would you change?

How could you take one step today that moves you in the direction of that change?
