I’ve been writing about work contracts training and why this needs to happen.

R/GA is officially piloting the type of program that could set a benchmark for the future.

In the summer of 2023, they released news of a new program called /ASSOCIATES.

Now, in Q2 2024, I’m starting to see postings for /ASSOCIATES on LinkedIn.

Evidence of the program moving from concept to reality.

The /ASSOCIATES Program

I love the way R/GA introduces the program:

/ASSOCIATES is our new flex-time talent program. 100% R/GAers, just not 100% of the time.

– R/GA

You can learn all about the program here and below are some of the headlines:

  • Provides at least 20 total weeks (or comparative hours) guaranteed over a 12-month period.
  • Access to all learning and development.
  • Open to use the office space or work remote.
  • R/GA laptop, email, and access.
  • Wellness benefits.
  • “May” be eligible for health, dental and vision.

The kicker – not everyone can be an /ASSOCIATE.  Only those who are “alumni” of RGA.

My Perspective

Overall, this program feels like a giant step forward offering a new kind of work arrangement.

One area of uncertainty is that /ASSOCIATES “may” be eligible for benefits.  Those benefits could be a significant advantage of this program.  I’ll be anxious to see where that goes.

Another question on my mind is what the rules will be about engaging with other companies.  As a freelancer, an individual would be working for multiple companies.  I wonder if the /ASSOCIATE will be free to continue to do freelance work with other organizations or if there will be restrictions.

Details will come with time.

Now, I send congratulations to R/GA for getting out of the box and creating a program that is a win/win for the business and the fractional team!

Your Turn

What do you think of the R/GA model?

Is this something you think your company should consider?

Would you be interested in being part of an “alumni” program if offered by a prior employer?
