As a reader, when I look at reading stats, I’m surprised.
Looking at this chart, nearly half of people (46%) in the US didn’t read a book last year.
Then, I wondered how many read professionally.
Research suggests only 21% (11 in 100) of readers choose business books.
24% (13 in 100) choose self-help – which could include professional development.
And 41% (22 in 100) said “other non-fiction”.
The wealth of knowledge being provided at a low-cost is not being tapped by most workers.
My Perspective
I’m amazed by these statistics.
My bookshelves are full of books that highlight the chapters of my career.
New roles that brought new responsibilities.
I wanted to soak in insights from thought leaders in the field.
The more I could learn, the more I could bring to my role.
“Reads that meet my needs.”

While I do enjoy a good fiction book, my lean is toward non-fiction.
With audiobooks, podcasts, and YouTube, I wonder if people soak up the content in other ways.
Still seeking to learn more about their current role.
Deepening knowledge.
