Yes, this title seems counterintuitive.

We are already busy at work… Why do we need a “busy box”?

I heard an episode of Before Breakfast where they were talking about a busy box for adults.

For children, the box has interesting items to keep them occupied…. hence “busy”.

The adult version was a box of things to do at home instead of scrolling on your phone.

Examples included an unfinished book, crochet project, or adult puzzle/coloring book.

My Perspective

First, I love this idea.

A place to grab from instead of finding myself scrolling social media or mindlessly watching something on TV.

When I shift my thinking to work, I wonder if the same concept might apply.

Yes, days are busy. Too many meetings and not enough time to get the actual work done.

Yet, if I’m honest with myself, I think about moments where I’m mindlessly in email.

Maybe I’m avoiding the hard work.

Maybe I just need a break.

But I am in a lull at some point during the day.

What if there was a “busy box” at the ready?

Instead of the mindless activities I fill the short time with, I could be doing something else.

I could fill the box with articles I want to read.

A business book in progress.

Or a note pad to capture ideas and plan future projects.

A busy box might just be the addition my office needs right now.

Your Turn

What do you think about busy boxes for yourself?

Would you use one more at home, work, or both?

What might you fill your busy boxes with?
