Several years ago, a colleague and I came up with a phrase for the year:

“Do Don’t Stew”

It was a reminder to us both to stop overthinking.

We would analyze and rethink our approach without acting.

We were stuck in the cycle of analysis paralysis.

Looking for perfection.

Striving to something that wasn’t attainable.

When I read the book, Stop Trying, everything clicked.

I use research, strategy, and planning as a stalling tactic.

This doesn’t mean these things aren’t important.

It means they are my go-to when something is holding me back from doing.

So, Do Don’t Stew, becomes my mantra.

When I find myself procrasta-planning, I stop.

Instead, I consider what I’m resisting and start to work my way through it.

Your Turn

What is your procrastination tactic?

Would “Do Don’t Stew” help you take action?

Are there approaches you use to stop trying and start doing?
