For me, magic has always meant a trick or a supernatural power.
However, recently the other definition of magic has been in front of me.
The idea that magic is
“a quality that makes something seem removed from everyday life, especially in a way that gives delight”.
There were two episodes of the Before Breakfast podcast that shifted my perspective.
The first was titled Magic is Just Labor Hidden Well (6 minutes) and the second was Make Your Own Magic (5 minutes).
Both episodes highlighted that we have the power to create the delight we want to see in the world.
More fun.
More Connection.
In parallel, I read this quote in the book Big Trust:
“Magic happens when you commit to the act itself and give yourself permission to grow through the imperfections.”
– Dr. Shade Zahari, Big Trust
My Perspective
This serendipitous series has completely shifted my perspective on “magic”.
I’m now thinking about where and how I can add a bit of magic to each day.
Where are opportunities to make magic for others?
How can I create a magical moment for myself?
The idea of making magic causes me to think more intentionally about events.
Thinking of ways to add a little extra.
Putting a special moment inside activities where it’s not expected.
A little creativity in a meal.
An unexpected moment on a weekend morning.
Some creativity to make a dreaded chore fun.
Opportunities are endless.
Your Turn
Do you see your ability to create magic?
What are some magical moments that you remember in your life?
How could you intentionally create a moment today?
