A Misogi goal is a bold goal chosen for growth, not comfort.

It’s meant to stretch us.

It’s not guaranteed to succeed.

And it’s bigger than our normal goal-setting systems.

The idea gained popularity through stories like Jesse Itzler’s extreme challenges.

However, at its core, a Misogi goal doesn’t have to be about doing something dramatic.

It’s about choosing one goal that forces us to grow into a new level of ourselves.

Taking on the challenges that we are uncertain if we can achieve.

My Perspective

I don’t believe a Misogi has to be a once-a-year, all-or-nothing event.

I like the quarterly Misogi approach.

One stretch goal every 90 days. Something bold and uncomfortable.

Grounded in our day-to-day work and life.

Each quarterly Misogi should be:

  • Doable, but uncertain
  • Outside our comfort zone
  • Chosen for growth, not validation
  • Focused on the person we want to be, not just what we’re producing

This isn’t about setting harder goals for the sake of pressure.

It’s about building a consistent practice of choosing a challenge on purpose.

Your Turn

If you were to choose one Misogi goal for the next 90 days, ask yourself:

What would stretch me beyond my current identity?

Where am I playing it safe out of habit, not intention?

What attempt would I still be proud of, even if it doesn’t fully work?
