Today, I celebrate writing one blog post every day.

The structure I set up in 2022 still holds today.

  • Keep it to one page of a Word document with one sentence per line.
  • Use a framework for most days – topic intro, my perspective, and your turn to prompt ideas.
  • Writing before working – 30 minutes before diving into a project or email.

The experience so far has been great.

I’ve had less than 10 days where the “write before work” rule didn’t work.

The framework and length of the posts continue to stand.

As I approached the milestone, I’ve started to think about the focus of what I’ve written.

Considering where I want to focus my work – both writing and coaching.

While everything I write has connections, the areas of interest are emerging.

I’ve realized a unique Venn diagram.

Experience in brand development, research, marketing, business strategy, and planning.

Education in engineering, business, leadership, coaching, and sustainability.

Skills for curating and organizing – data, conversations, podcasts, closets, books…most anything.

When all those mash together interesting “Tilts” (to use Joe Pulizzi’s term) occur.

Those interesting Tilts emerged through my writing.

I can look back and see 3 clear categories:

Employee Branding – Defining and leveraging personal brands (career as a business)

Life Planning – Setting goals, defining habits, and finding the space in life to achieve them

Sustainable Life – Strategies for reducing overwhelm and simplifying our lives

I’m proud of myself for starting and keeping this practice.

I appreciate how it has helped me clarify my thinking and sort out jumbled information in my head.

And, to reinforce the impact 30 minutes a day can have, here are the stats:

390,000 words written. 1096 blog posts created. 780 blog posts published.

Day by Day. Step by Step.

Life…One Shade Greener.
