We all have open space.

Our life might not feel like it, but there are times without schedule.

Sometimes we know open space is coming.

Other times something cancels, and the space appears.

A default for those who feel overwhelmed by life is that this becomes catch-up time.

A time to dive into email.

Clean a room.

Tackle the growing to-do list.

My Perspective

I wonder what would happen if we framed this time differently.

Instead of catch-up time, we saw it as breathing room.

A place where we can take a pause and think about what’s next.

Thinking before we just start doing.

Considering how the time could be most valuable.

Is it better to spend an hour doing email or grabbing coffee with a colleague?

Tackle household chores or sit down and watch a movie with the family?

The list of things to do will never end.

Always pushing off the things we want to do because of the to-do list isn’t a good path.

Sometimes it’s necessary, but not all the time.

The next time you see open time in front of you, consider it breathing room.

Take a step back and do something you want that doesn’t show up on the to-do list.

Your Turn

Are there any pockets of time this week at work that aren’t scheduled?

What could you do with that time that isn’t something on the to-do list?

If something is cancelled at home or work, do you have a list of things you want to do?
