Kendra Adachi was recently on an episode of The Next Big Idea Daily.
She provided an overview of her book The Plan: Manage Your Time Like a Lazy Genius.
The book is about leading what she calls and integrated life.
She comes at planning through the lens of a life that changes every day.
Kendra isn’t against planning; she highlights how we need to be ok when life pivots.
Those pivots could be big.
However, they can also be all the little, unexpected moments that arrive every day.
We don’t need to think every day will be perfect.
Progressing toward prescribed goals.
My Perspective
Listening to this episode made me want to pick up her book.
I think she has a very realistic view of life and planning that would help many of us.
I found the timing of this episode interesting.
Just a day after I listened to and posted about the Approaches to Life podcast from TED.
In that episode, the three approaches were improvise, pivot, or plan.
My view was that pivots occur to all of us – improvisers and planners.
I feel like this aligns to Kendra’s perspective.
Life is full of pivots every day and we can’t stress when we don’t complete every to-do list.
Yet, we haven’t been brought up this way.
We grow up with assignments to complete.
Extracurricular activities to attend.
Chores to do.
Lists. Check Marks.
Feeling bad if we don’t get it all finished.
Kendra is suggesting a new approach.
I look forward to reading more about it.
We are a stressed society with lives that aren’t sustainable.
We need to learn how to achieve an integrated life that we can enjoy along the way.
Your Turn
