When we think about our work, we tend to look for autonomy.
The ability to work when and how we are at our best.
We want control.
Determining an approach.
Crafting a message.
Moving toward an end that fits our goals.
My Perspective
I think there may be a tipping point.
The place where we want “perceived control”.
We want to make the decisions, but maybe not all of them.
I’ve realized this lately.
Spending most of my career in corporate roles, I had leadership help with some decisions.
When I had a million ideas, others would help sort the best to move forward.
I perceived control even though decisions were happening all around me.
When others aren’t around nudging us in a direction, control feels different.
We may feel like we want more control.
Yet, we might crave a bit less when we have too much.
Sometimes the grass is greener….
Consider if you want full control.
How much is enough?
