On a recent episode of Edit Your Life podcast, Christine Koh interviews Kate Fogarty about reimagining midlife.

They talk about midlife shifts like children moving out, caring for aging parents, physical changes, menopause, ageism, careers, and more.

One point she made that was interesting to consider is about how your relationships change over the years, and you must reimagine what the new relationship looks like.

This could be with parents, children, spouse, friends, co-workers, or anyone else in your life.

I also thought this was a great quote:

“Not everybody wants to reinvent. I would invite you to consider that you are going to be reinventing whether you like it or not. That sounds sort of bossy and grim, but changes are coming, and you want to be open to bringing attention to that and hopefully excitement.”

My Perspective

This interview sparked a lot of thoughts for me.

As I personally go through many changes discussed, the rewrite at this stage really resonated.

That said, it also reminded me of posts I’ve written about life transitions.

Midlife is not the only life moment with significant transitions.

We could use this same reimagining approach at those moments.

The other idea I had was to use the 8 dimensions of wellbeing to guide the journey.

We could consider how each area of our life will/could be impacted and intentionally work through the areas to design new visions.
