Recently there has been talk about a shift to focus on tasks over titles.
If companies start hiring for tasks, they will need to find people to fit those tasks.
In turn, individuals will need to highlight their skills for various tasks.
I started to think about what my top 10 tasks might be.
The List
My list looks very different than my resume.
Here are just three items on my Top 10 list:
- You need something organized – from a room at home to a bunch of information in the office – I thrive in making sense of clutter.
- You need research – On a product, creative design, or performance feedback. I love creating surveys and interview scripts, gathering data, and summarizing the findings.
- You need a speaker or panelist – With a breadth of professional experience, I enjoy sharing thoughts and information on marketing, sustainability, and organization.
Structuring a list of 10 was long enough that some of the things that came up were surprising.
It made me think more deeply about what I bring to the table.
Looking at the longer list, I started to see elements that I should bring into my profile and resume.
This isn’t how we are used to looking at our experience.
The lens gave me different perspective and new areas where I realize my work is unique.
