Confidence isn’t a fixed trait. It doesn’t live on a 1–10 scale. It moves like the weather. In seasons.
I’ve come to see confidence as a cycle, not a straight climb. Confidence begins with a spark.
The spark builds as we try, learn, and grow.
Then, sometimes quietly, our confidence can stall.
Doubt creeps in. Failure lingers. A voice inside whispers, “What if I’m not enough?”
That’s the detour part of the confidence cycle. And it’s normal.
But it can be hard to notice until it starts to feel like a storm.
Check In on Your Confidence “Weather”
Here’s a quick (and fun) way to check in: What’s your confidence weather today?
- Sunny – You’re showing up, speaking up, and ready for more
- Mostly clear – You feel strong, but there’s a whisper of doubt
- Overcast – You’re doing the work, but second-guessing yourself
- Rainy – Self-criticism and comparison are clouding your view
- Stormy – You’ve gone quiet, holding back, hoping no one notices
If you’re in stormy weather, don’t panic.
You’re not broken.
You’re in a detour and rebuilding phase.
Shift the Weather
Here are a few ways to shift the skies:
- Create or look back on your Superhero Self.
- Do something small but brave: email the idea, join the meeting, say yes.
- Borrow belief from someone who sees your potential clearly.
- Track your wins, especially the small ones.
- Limit exposure to people or platforms that chip away at your worth.
- Revisit what you’ve learned from overcoming weakness or choosing discomfort.
Confidence isn’t about always feeling fearless.
It’s about finding your way back again and again.
So, if today feels cloudy, know this:
The weather will change.
You will rise.
You’ve done it before.
You’re not starting over.
You’re starting wiser.
