Welcome to the Saturday Summary.
My Blog Posts
This week, we focus on the winding down of the calendar year and how we can start to plan now to save ourselves a bit of time during the busy month of December. The posts also cover getting a project going, recognizing the seasons of our life, and finding moments of rest. Enjoy!
100 Days Left in 2025. Today, Monday, September 22nd leaves 100 days until the end of the year. I think this time splits 60/40. Link to the post to learn why.
The Law of Inertia at Work. How can we use the law of physics to get projects moving at work. This post provides thoughts on starting and keeping momentum.
Life Like TV Seasons. We can look at moments in our life like episodes in a TV series or the stretches between seasons when the plotline leaves on a cliffhanger and we need to wait for what’s next.
Finding Rest at Work. We all reach moments in our day when our energy is low, and we just need a quick break. This post reminds us that it’s ok to take a break and we all refresh differently.
Gift to My December Self. With the 60/40 split we talked about in the 100 Day post, I’m working now to open time so my December self can relax a bit and enjoy the season.
Podcasts That Caught My Attention
This week, the first one on the list is short, but gets you thinking. For anyone in a leadership role, I highly recommend the one on leadership styles. I knew of these types but hadn’t considered that you could strategically leverage them depending on the leadership challenge at hand.
Motivation is Fuel for Action. 4 minutes. Self-Improvement Daily. This podcast talks about how we always have motivation we just often don’t have it pointed at the things we want to do.
Ambition Won’t Save You – Purpose Will. 14 minutes. The Next Big Idea Daily. In this episode, Mike Hayes shares ideas from his book, Mission Driven: The Path to a Life of Purpose.
5 Leadership Styles in Management You Should Know About. 9 minutes. Optimal Work Daily. Brian Tracy explains five distinct leadership styles that can help inspire teams to achieve peak performance. As a leader you can consider the options and determine the style that best fits.
Do This to Boost Your Metabolism, Lose Fat, and Feel Better Now. 50 minutes. The Mel Robbins Podcast. In this episode, Mel talks with Dr. William Li, MD. They discuss how to boost your metabolism at any age and the simple changes that lead to better health, longevity, and fat loss.
My Severance is Running Out, Now What? 11 minutes. Career Blast in a Half. This episode is about flipping that script of severance as a parachute to severance as a timer. Three moves that matter are discussed in planning a path forward.
What I’ve Been Up To
On the professional front, the Wayfarer team had “Strategy Week”. We discussed priorities and set sprints for the next six weeks. As with many strategy sessions, it feels great to have alignment and focus. I also had a few conversations and a celebration session that led to an interesting thought leadership idea. I hope the spark turns into something. Notes have gone out to six people to join the journey…we shall see. I also talked to my sister about partnering on something. I think it would be really fun to do a project together – kind of like Gretchen Rubin and Liz Craft.
Outside of work, I’m feeling withdrawal since The Summer I Turned Pretty is over, and I finished watching the latest season of My Life with the Walker Boys. And Project Runway will end by the time you read this. My only lifeline on the series front is The Morning Show. I need to find a few more. Any suggestions? Aside from the TV saga, I have too many books in play at once and continue to enjoy this wonderfully warm fall.
