This week, I wasn’t sure which blog post to highlight as they all take many different directions. I’ve landed on the one that focuses on our personal development. I was introduced to some research that suggests we are always in a state of doing, being, becoming, and belonging. My post highlights the research and each of the four dimensions.

What the post doesn’t highlight is how I see these four dimensions connecting directly to the frameworks I’ve been developing over the last several years. Here is the map I see:

Doing – This is how we live our day to day lives. An understanding of how we spend our time, what our energy curves look like, and how to navigate and develop our executive functioning skills.

Being – This dimension focuses on who we are at our core. The more we can understand our strengths, tendencies and motivations, the more likely we are to live a satisfying, sustainable life.

Becoming – The third dimension is all about the future. Research says that somewhere between 70 and 80% of people don’t have a vision for where they want their life to go. I am a firm believer in having goals and making small changes to habits to start nudging ourselves in the direction of our dreams.

Belonging – More and more is being written about the importance of community. In the work I’ve done, this is the newest in the mix. I’ve always considered personal development to be a solo sport, but I’m realizing all the wonderful ways we can grow together in community.

My Other Posts This Week

Do You Really Talk Like This? A post with a bit of my frustration with all the AI copy I’m seeing online. I’m starting to pinpoint areas where it works well and other times I feel we are working with an intern… and some of us aren’t checking the intern’s work.

AI For Agency Strategy. This post builds off an article I saw that suggested AI will become the strategic partner of an agency account leader (vs. the strategy department). I see issues with this, and the blog post highlights why I’m concerned.

The Forgotten Generation. I’ve written about age cohorts many times over the years. This is not meant to stereotype, but instead to note trends and transitions that might be occurring. This post highlights the challenges for organizations transitioning from Boomer to Millennial leadership. Maybe a step in between is a bridge with the Forgotten Generation… Gen X.

Imagine the Possibilities. This post looks at five areas that organizations should be considering as they design the work structures of the future.

Podcasts That Caught My Attention

Each of these picks resonated with me for different reasons. If I could only listen to one, I would likely pick the interview with Liz Tran talking about our agility quotient (AQ).

Make it a Stop on the Way Home. 6 minutes. Before Breakfast. This episode provides ideas on how to integrate things you want to do by making those things stops on the way home.

Expectations Create Reality. 11 minutes. Optimal Finance Daily. This podcast covers how mindset, vision, and belief directly influence our long-term success and health.

6-Step Science-Backed Morning Reset. 24 minutes. On Purpose with Jay Shetty. In this episode, Jay talks about how the first 60 to 90 minutes after we wake up are the most important of our day and we often give that time away. Regardless of whether you are a morning lark or a night owl, the same principles apply to all of us.

The New Intelligence that Matters More Than IQ. 25 minutes. Hello Monday with Jessi Hempel. In this podcast, Jessi interviews Liz Tran about her new book AQ: A New Kind of Intelligence for a World That’s Always Changing. Liz covers how in today’s rapidly evolving world what really predicts success is our ability to adapt, navigate uncertainty, and respond to change.
