Happy Earth Day!

This week, I’m taking a bit of a turn from my weekly “PodList” and highlighting the podcasts, blogs, and books that can help you along your journey to a greener future.

One Shade Greener

First, I would love it if you would support/follow my One Shade Greener resources – book, blog, and social media.  I started One Shade Greener in 2010 to inspire others to lessen their environmental impact and reduce toxins.  The resources below continue to provide tips and ideas you can start today:

One Shade Greener at Home – You can purchase print or Kindle version here.

Blog – www.OneShadeGreener.com – There is a sign up to get posts delivered to your email.

Social Media – Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn – Bite sized tips and ideas.

PodList

Why Restoring Natural Capital is Good for Business – 9 minutes. The McKinsey Podcast. The first nine minutes of this podcast has a great introduction on how to look at resources used in your business (or home) as Natural Capital.

How to Feng Shui Your Fridge – and Other Happy Climate Hacks – 12 minutes. TED Talks Daily. This is a great episode looking at ways to add more to your life while making a positive impact.  The premise is that we think eco-friendly changes deprive us of something.  This podcast flips that idea.

Podcasts

No specific episode.  These are the ones I follow weekly.  Some focused-on work, others on home.

CarbonSessions – Discussions about a variety of topics impacting climate change.

The Indisposable Podcast – Focuses on circularity and the impact on plastics.

Sustainable Minimalist – Green living tips and coverage of news events.

Carbon Connection – Highlights conversations about many facets of climate change.

Good Together – A variety of topics for both work and home.

Generation Carbon – Great podcast for the children in your life!

Books

If One Shade Greener at Home were in a “flight” of books, these are the two I would pick for the pairing.

The Carbon Almanac – This book provides the foundation of facts on what is happening with climate change and how different industries and activities are impacting the situation.  The content is provided in bite-sized chucks and is presented in a simple, easy to understand fashion.

One Green Thing – This book helps you understand your eco-service superpower. What is the best way for you to make a difference.  Then, there are tips based on your type to start impacting change.

So, The Carbon Almanac lets us know the situation, One Green Thing tells us how we can each lean in, and One Shade Greener at Home gets you started with a room-by-room guide.

Blogs

Three of my favorites include:

Treehugger – Leans a bit more toward home and lifestyle information.

Sustainable Brands – A wide variety of topics relevant to businesses and brands.

Daily Difference – The Carbon Almanac newsletter

Movie

Earlier this week, I saw a screening of Beyond Zero.  I would highly recommend checking it out.  A summary of my thoughts is in a post here.  You can watch the trailer learn more about the project here.
