On an episode of The Next Big Idea Club podcast, I heard this quote:
“A conclusion is an end. An insight is a beginning.” – Anthony Tasgel
The comment was made by Anthony Tasgel, author of The Insight Book.
He believes many people see insights as the end of the project.
The collection of quantitative and qualitative data.
Summarized into a conclusion.
An insight.
His point of view is that this moment isn’t an ending, it is just the beginning.
From there, if we do nothing with the insight, there was no purpose.
The insight had no role.
My Perspective
I think this is a great way to think of insight.
The insight could provide a moment of pause and celebration.
The unique “ah-ha’s” emerged from volumes of information.
Once the celebration is over, the next phase of the journey begins.
This is where we turn the insights into ideas.
What will we discover?
What might we change?
How does this new perspective alter how we see the world?
The answers to these questions become the next leg of the journey.
After the ideas, more things will need to be done.
To circle back to the quote, maybe the insight is a conclusion of a phase.
Celebrate, but don’t forget to continue the journey.
That is where the magic will happen.
Your Turn
How do you look at insights – a conclusion, a beginning, or both?
Do you celebrate when the insight moments occur?
Does this post cause you to think a bit differently about information, insights, and ideas?
