Most focus on social media these days are the downsides.

We mindlessly scroll losing hours of our day.

We feel depressed comparing ourselves to others “perfect” social lives.

We can become more isolated and shut off from the real world.

The list can go on.

What we don’t talk much about are the benefits social media brings.

Today is Social Media Day.

This feels like the perfect time to celebrate the good side.

My Perspective

The main benefit of social media is the ability to develop a sense of community with people who don’t physically live in your area.

People with similar interests all over the world can now connect and share thoughts and ideas.

Businesses can do the same.

Connecting with like-minded customers no matter where they live.

My Story

I have several social media communities that enrich my life.

They provide me perspectives from around the world.

These relationships have taught me so much about how our lives are different based on where we live.

I get a peek into the world and culture that is deeper than a vacation could ever provide.

The communities that I’m active in include a photography group, the Carbon Almanac (environmental) community, and a group of creatives pursuing writing, painting, music, and more.

I cherish them all and don’t consider time spent with them to be “wasted” at all.

Your Turn

How has social media enriched your life?

Do you find positive value in the time you spend connecting with others online?

Who might you reach out to today through social channels to connect or re-connect?
