An episode of Self Improvement Daily talked about the Psychology of Possibility.

The content was based on the work of Ellen Langer.

She is focused on the psychology of possibility and how small changes make a difference.

Her approach is centered around exploring what could be.

These possibilities lower our stress levels and create hope for what’s to come.

“Certainty is a cruel mindset. It hardens our minds against possibility.” – Ellen Langer

My Perspective

I think this perspective is closely related to the psychology of hope.

Both are proponents of determining intentions for what we want.

If we don’t see possibilities in the future or hope for something different, our lives will continue in the current state.

To shift to this mindset, we need to focus more on “could” than “should”.

Should is full of obligations.

Could is full of possibilities.

We can’t abandon all our obligations, yet some may exist more in our mind than reality.

The first step in the process is to consider the possibility.

“Before you can make a dream come true, you must first have one.” – Ronald McNair

Your Turn

What are your dreams for the future?

Do you find your obligations holding you back?

What is a small goal you could set to move you toward your dream?
