Recently, I came across this quote from Better Up:
“What we consider ‘work’ is dominated by outer work – an endless list of to-do items, meetings, and deliverables. But to be more creative, make better decisions, be a better leader, and find more meaning in your work, it requires a different type of work: Inner Work®. It’s not just about what you do. It’s how you think.” – Better Up
Our inner work has us looking inward to understand our thoughts and behaviors.
There are many types of inner work that drive short- and long-term actions.
We can consider what is holding us back.
Wrestle with our inner critic.
Understand ourselves better.
Dream about our future.
Identify our strengths and weaknesses.
And so much more.
To leverage another quote from Better Up:
“Self-development contributes to the success and sustainability of our outer work.”
– Better Up
Success and sustainability.
Both are defined uniquely by each of us.
Both hold the keys to a fulfilling life – have we met our definition of success and sustainable?
My Perspective
The last 10 years I’ve been on a personal development journey.
Looking inside and working toward more fulfilment in all 8 dimensions of wellbeing.
I’ve gotten underneath my personal definitions of success.
I’ve realized what makes my days and week’s sustainable and what throws sustainability off track.
Along the way, I’ve gained a better understanding of my strengths and the value I bring.
I’ve learned more about what I struggle with….and why.
Inner work is never done, but the journey can add a richness to life.
Your Turn
Have you been focused on your inner work?
How often do you intentionally spend time working on yourself?
Are there areas you have been neglecting that need some attention?
