Many take vacations during the time between the 4th of July and Labor Day weekend.
Some take long trips with their family and friends.
Some take Fridays off making every weekend a long weekend.
Others take random days to go to a baseball game, zoo, water park, or other fun activities.
My Perspective
Summer is a great time to get a break from the demands of work.
Summer can also be a great time to take on a new project while others are taking breaks.
Finding space in your calendar is easier in the laid-back days of summer.
Often the open hours are spent with email, chatting with colleagues, or another non-mandatory activity.
We are so used to not having open space, we don’t know how to use it.
What if we had an idea for a project, process improvement, or problem to fill that space?
Research a topic to frame up some thought leadership.
Generate ideas to increase sales by 1%.
Intentionally reach out to professional connections you haven’t talked to in at least a year.
The opportunities are endless.
With a list of projects and ideas, you can use the open time much more intentionally.
Summer will end and you can look back at the progress you have made.
The momentum generated can carry you through the rest of the year with a positive intent.
Your Turn
What is summer like at your office? Do open spaces pop up more frequently?
Are there 3-5 projects you’ve been wanting to dive into? Jot them down.
How could you carve some summer hours to advance these projects?
