We have heard about the benefits of networking.

They say having a strong network can serve you well if you need support in your career.

Prompting points of view like this one:

“Networking is one letter away from not working” – Kerry Hannon

When I first heard this quote, it really got me thinking.

Our network is so important when we are looking for a new opportunity.

However, many misuse their networks.

And only leverage them when they need something.

Instead, we need to nurture our networks all the time.

Growing the connections.

The Difference Between a Network and a Connection

The dictionary defines a network as:

Interacting with others to exchange information and develop professional or social contacts.

The focus when talking about networks is transactional.

Doing things for one another.

However, what many of us have learned is that a big network means nothing without connections.

Connections are real relationships.

You are both invested in supporting each other on your professional journeys.

Networking can be very challenging and intimidating.

Connections and relationships can feel much more approachable.

Regardless of the words we use, going through our professional journey with others is important.

Find your community and start connecting.
