When life becomes overwhelming, the suggestion others provide is to clear our mind.
We might approach this in different ways:
Take a walk outdoors. Meditate. Go for a run. Do a “brain dump”.
Clean a room or a workspace.
My Perspective
There are many activities we might engage in to clear our mind.
Yet, what we are really trying to do is find space.
Clutter is blocking us.
The clutter might also take different forms:
Too much stuff. Too many ideas. Too much social interaction.
Too many responsibilities.
Too many emails to deal with.
I believe if we better understand the clutter that is most frequently bothering us, we can plan strategies to combat it once it arrives.
My Story
There are many things that can cause me to feel overwhelmed.
The three most frequent are tight project deadlines, too much social interaction, and too many emails to deal with.
My go to solution is to take a walk.
The literal space and openness of the outdoors makes me immediately feel less overwhelmed by whatever is going on.
“I love walking because it clears your mind, enriches the soul, takes away stress and opens up your eyes to a whole new world.”
– Claudette Dudley
The other two that work well depending on the situation are cleaning a room and doing a brain dump.
