This time of year, in Michigan, the milkweed pods start to burst with seeds.

As soon as I start seeing them, I start taking pictures.

I am drawn to the wispy pieces that will carry the seeds to new locations.

The possibilities they represent.

Seeds in our Life

The idea of planting seeds in our life isn’t new.

I’ve written about Planting Seeds, Seeds for What’s Next, and Careers are Like a Garden.

Yet, I don’t know if I saw the connection to this time of year.

Knowing that seeds take time to take root and grow.

Planting seeds in the fall could be perfectly aligned with plans for next year.

Maybe this is why many companies do annual planning for the next year in Q3.

The seeds need to be planted for the strategy to take root in the year ahead.

When we think about our personal lives, we often set goals in January.

Is that a good choice?

Knowing that the seeds need planted, maybe we should start personal planning now.

Thinking about all 8 dimensions of wellbeing.

Occupational. Financial. Physical. Intellectual. Spiritual. Social. Environmental. Emotional.

Figuring out the seeds to plant now.

Hopeful that they will grow in the year ahead.

Your Turn

Have you considered any goals for the year ahead?

Are there seeds you could plant now that would help your future self?

How can you find one seed for each area of wellbeing to plant in the month of October?
