You know the moment. You arrive at your destination only to realize you have two different shoes on.
This is what you get for dressing in the dim light of the morning.
Now you need to decide if you go home to make a change or just face the day proudly. Today, May 3rd, wear them proudly.
It’s National Two Different Shoes Day.
The day was created in 2009 by Dr. Arlene Kaiser to recognize and celebrate human diversity.
“The simple act of wearing two different colored shoes proclaims your individuality. By taking this ‘positive risk,’ you can demonstrate your willingness to be different, and show your appreciation for the unique people in your life.”
– Dr. Arlene Kaiser

How to Celebrate
First, take a moment to celebrate and acknowledge your own uniqueness. What are the qualities that set you apart. You could think about things you have learned about yourself from previous posts here. Last week, we discussed strengths and motivations. In prior weeks we explored energy drivers, your creative type, and how you meet expectations.
Each of these insights show your individual fingerprint on the world.
Next, let others in your life – coworkers, family & friends – know what you appreciate about their uniqueness. Encourage them to let those attributes shine.
Finally, you could consider wearing two different shoes. You could also pick a fun accessory or piece of clothing that demonstrates your unique personality.
My Story
To get you thinking about your own uniqueness, here are a few things that I believe make me unique.
I’m a morning person whose energy peaks when I wake up and continues a downward track throughout the day. My motivation comes from taking in a lot of information, curating to pull out insights, and summarizing to make the content easier to understand.
My strengths are organization, strategic thinking, and solving problems. Sometimes there are more ideas in my head than there is time to execute them. I love photography and visual composition.
These are just a few things that make me unique.
