Q4 is strategic planning season.

Setting goals and plans for the year ahead.

As I think about this, I realize how much this is really about priorities.

We took a plan at the beginning of the year and worked to make it come to life.

Yet, things happened.

The world changed around us.

Things we anticipated and things we didn’t.

We pivoted.

We added new activities.

We got busy and lost track of work we had done.

By the end of the year we are rushing to try to finish goals.

And really struggling with where to focus our time.

My Perspective

This is where priorities and planning come in.

We start to look at the goals for next year and examine the things on our list.

Which ones fit with the new goals and what’s missing.

Most importantly, what are we going to let go of or de-prioritize.

The new year can be a clean slate.

Not a time to carry over what has always been done.

Rather to look at the goals and prioritize the activities that move us forward the fastest.

Your Turn

What are goals you have next year?

How will you prioritize what is most important to get there?

What will you let go of to let new things in?
