It’s been over 2 years since my post about the types of energy.

I developed this framework to help us understand the best time of day for activities.

The “when” will be different for each of us.

That post highlights 7 categories:

  • Charge – Time to rest, reflect, and recharge so you can be at your best the rest of the day.
  • Create – Time to focus on individual deep work.
  • Craft – A light form of create, to focus on email, refining/editing writing or presentations.
  • Care – Time to spend energy caring for others and your physical environment.
  • Connect – These are times when you are meeting and engaging with others.
  • Consume – Time to purposefully engage with content – reading, podcasts, videos and more.
  • Chill – Time to relax without intention – watch TV, scroll social media, hanging out in nature, etc.

So, how does this relate to our mornings?

I think it’s interesting to consider what category is the best way to start our day.

We might be at our best to create first thing in the day (this one is me).

We could need time to chill and ease ourselves into the day.

We might be at a life stage where we care for others first thing in the morning.

Or maybe after a good night’s sleep we need to charge with reflection and journaling.

My Perspective

There is no “right” formula for the routines and rituals to start our day.

Knowing ourselves and what we need in the first hour or two will help honor our rhythms.

We start to understand the ebbs and flows of our energy.

With that understanding, we can create more intentional plans for the day.

Leveraging the times that are best for us.

We can also start to understand and honor the patterns of those around us.

Family.

Friends.

Co-workers.

When are they at their best and when do they need to rest and recharge.

Your Turn

Have you considered your daily energy?

How does your morning energy impact your morning routines and rituals?

Are there adjustments you could make for more alignment?
