Often work will have multiple projects that are only loosely related.
Switching back and forth between meetings and activities on all the projects can be a challenge.
Your mind just gets focused on one project when it’s time to attend a meeting for another.
In prior posts, I’ve talked about the idea of time blocking to get work time scheduled.
My Perspective
I’ve been thinking about the concept of “time grouping”.
What if we not only blocked time, but worked to group our days by project?
Project #1 might be the focus of Monday mornings.
We have work time, meetings, research, and calls all focused on one topic.
All day Wednesday could be focused on another project.
The week could still have open time for the unexpected or project topics that pop up.
However, larger groups of time could be spent concentrating on just one thing.
My Story
I’ve been overwhelmed lately with many diverse projects.
When I drill into the challenge, I’m realizing that I constantly switch between projects.
This month, I’m going to give time grouping a try and see if this provides more calm in the chaos.
Your Turn
Are you shifting frequently from project to project?
Could you use more time focused on just one thing?
Do you think that time grouping could work for you?
