Throughout our lives, we all face forks in the road.
Moments when we have a decision to make.
One path vs. another.
During these moments, those around us often have opinions.
Go this way.
It would be awesome.
The decision is clear.
However, that often isn’t the case.
We struggle over what to do.
I think the struggle is often more about others than it is about us.
We may know the decision we want.
The path that feels right in our guts.
What gets tricky is when others see the alternative path as the one to take.
They believe that would be best for us.
They have great intentions.
We don’t want to disappoint those around us.
We don’t want them to be angry if we make the other choice.
So, many of us cave.
We go against our guts and with the advice of others.
Sometimes, this works out.
Other times, the only one hurt or disappointed by the choice is us.
This is where we need to lean in and take control of our career and life.
Stand behind our decisions.
We are the only ones who will need to live with them moving forward.
We need to have the strength to respect the feedback of others.
Yet, leave the final decision in our hands.
Your Turn
Have you regretted a decision from the past?
Do you feel you followed the path others wanted you to take vs. the one you would have chosen?
