As we move toward the new year, many are starting to think about goals.
I came across some stats from a Gallup poll that was fielded last December.
Below are some of the headlines from the research:
- 33% were “very likely” to set goals and 38% were “somewhat likely”.
- The younger, more educated, and wealthier you are, the more likely to set goals.
- The top three categories of goal setting are health, financial, and personal development.
- In the past, setting specific goals was more likely to lead to achievement.
I also liked this chart that noted 6 segments of goal setters:
My Perspective
I have always been a goal setter.
Looking at the chart above, I’ve evolved from a generalist to a diligent planner.
The last 10 years have included visioning work all the way through monthly action items.
A great place to start is with a reflection on the year that is winding down.
The next 8 days, the blog posts will focus on the 8 dimensions of wellbeing.
You will have the chance to reflect on each area and begin to consider goals for the year ahead.
Your Turn
Do you set goals for the year?
Are they focused in one area of your life or spread across the 8 dimensions of wellbeing?
