In a prior post, I referenced some stats that suggested we spend 45 minutes a day hunting for files.
The stat has been troubling me, yet I believe it could be true.
My Story
Organizing documents on my computer is something I’ve worked on for years.
The process is predictable.
Spend hours looking for something that should be easy to find.
Get overwhelmed by all the “stuff” on my computer.
Do a massive purge of files I don’t need.
Change the folder structure to meet my current needs.
Move things around.
Feel good until the cycle starts all over again in 6-12 months.
My Perspective
There must be a better way.
One thing I did this year was to move all my files to an external drive.
When I need something, I go to the drive to find the file and then put it on my computer if needed.
This seems to be a good move and my computer seems less overwhelming.
I’m also trying to get better at tagging my files to make them easier to find.
That said, I started doing some searching to understand how AI can help us manage our digital files.
If there are any discoveries that seem useful, I’ll be sure to share!
