We have made it to our last dimension of wellbeing – environmental.
This does mean nature and outdoors.
However, it also means the spaces in which we spend our time.
Our rooms, desk at work, or even that corner of a coffee shop we choose every time.
Having spaces we appreciate and enjoy spending time in can positively affect our wellbeing.
Looking at the list in last year’s environmental wellbeing post, I would make one change.
I would shift the category of “clutter” to “physical objects”.
When considering clutter, it can apply to all 8 dimensions of wellbeing.
In fact, I wrote about this earlier this year in a post called “Clutter Bloking Your Wellbeing”.
Below is the adjusted list.
Dimensions of Environmental Wellbeing
Physical Objects – The physical objects in our environments can add to or distract from our wellbeing. We may have too few or too many objects. Or maybe we don’t have the ones we want. Understanding how each item impacts the space is the first step to environmental wellbeing.
Toxins: Considering the air and water quality of the spaces we spend time in.
Vibe: The feeling you want a space to convey – engaging all five senses.
Nature: Spending time outdoors and bringing elements of nature inside our homes.
Sustainability: Considering mindful consumption, energy efficiency, minimizing waste, and more.
2024 Reflection Questions
As you reflect on 2024, here are some environmental wellbeing questions to consider:
- Three words I would use to describe my environmental wellbeing this year are:
- When I think about the spaces I spent the most time in, which was my favorite?
- What space in my home did I avoid this year because I don’t like to spend time there?
- Do I enjoy the spaces where I do my work? Is there anything I would change?
- Did I make changes this year to remove toxins from my personal environment?
- How did I engage with nature this year (getting outside and enjoying the world)?
- Were there any new sustainability practices I incorporated in my home or work this year?
