I listened to an episode of the Next Big Idea Club where they provided an overview of Jon Acuff’s latest book Procrastination Proof: Never Get Stuck Again.

In this summary he covered his framework for getting things done and how each of us tends to get stuck in one of the phases.

The four phases are Dream, Plan, Do, and Review.

Analyzers will spend too much time reviewing.

Planners spend too much time planning.

We all need to do all four to meet our goals.

My Perspective

I find this framework beautifully simple.

In all my research on achieving our goals, this sums it up perfectly.

Spend time dreaming about what you want.

Turn those dreams into a plan.

Take the necessary actions.

Review how it’s going periodically to adjust the plan as appropriate.

My favorite phase is planning.

Breaking down goals and figuring out plans to get there is my comfort zone.

I can see how our procrastination can be tied to one or two of these phases.

The framework is helping me recognize and hopefully avoid procrastination in the future.

Your Turn

What do you think of this four-phase framework?

Of the four phases, which one do you tend to settle into procrastination?

The next time you are procrastinating, what could you do to move to the next step?
