There are a lot of benefits to the routines that give our lives structure.
They streamline our tasks.
Let us navigate responsibilities with ease.
Provide calm and stability to our days.
Yet, they also lead us to live on autopilot.
We go through the motions without fully engaging in the present moment.
Routines can also restrict personal growth, creativity, and an overall sense of fulfillment.
Breaking routines makes us more mindful as we experience new things and savor each moment.
We can unlock potential, expand horizons, and embrace a bit of uncertainty.
My Perspective
Many know I LOVE a good routine.
They keep life moving smoothly and provide a familiar rhythm to the day.
However, recently, I broke several daily routines.
To my surprise, the feeling this evoked was not panic, but rather relief.
Without the daily pressure of these activities, there was space for serendipity.
Some of those routines may come back.
Others will fade away as their purpose no longer exists.
Sometimes we don’t notice which routines are no longer serving us.
Taking a break from them provides a nudge to assess, keep what serves us, and discard the rest.
Your Turn
